I have Hypermobility-type Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, lost my appendix at age 4/5, and was raised on a steady diet of antibiotics for recurring sinus infections. My celiac gene was activated in my twenties by another bad reaction to an antibiotic. All of this means that by my early 40's, I am a celiac with no built-in healthy gut-bacteria incubator (appendix), and have suffered for years from obesity that nothing seems to impact, IBS and daily digestive issues, breakouts, lethargy, intense brain fog, and more. Before meeting with Renata I was consuming a gluten-free, mostly whole-foods diet and an expensive pro/pre-biotic formula that was offering some help, but I was still experiencing daily problems with my health that were negatively impacting my quality of life.
Renata recommended the Auto-immune protocol diet with several modifications. I was on it strictly for several months. In that time my daily aches and pains decreased, my IBS slowed, my skin cleared up, my tinnitus reduced, etc. It really brought home for me how many food intolerances I have, and how little my system can handle. I will likely have to maintain a version of the AIP for the rest of my life. I have also been using a daily probiotic recommended by Renata that contains no ingredients that might cause a histamine reaction, to replace my prior probiotic, which contained a prebiotic mix including things like black pepper that may be inflammatory to my system. I would never have thought my probiotic itself could be causing me distress without Renata's guidance!
While the nature of my diagnoses is such that I will remain chronically ill, I will suffer less as long as I keep to the protocol. And that's a win for me!
